After losing more than half of their home in a tragic fire, we had the privilege of being the designer and project manager for this Moraga home rebuild. One of the homeowners is Japanese, hence they requested to add a traditional “Washitsu” Japanese-style Tatami Room and Master Bath to the renovation.
- Tatami Room details:
- custom Kotatsu tea ceremony (recessed) table
- Tatami (woven rice straw) mat flooring, straw wall texture, Japanese light fixture, Shoji screen doors
- 6 types of unique woods used for spiritual significance (i.e.: rounded Zebra wood pole trims out the Tokonoma alcove)
- Master Bathroom – Japanese-style soaking tub and traditional shaving shelf in glass enclosed shower room
- 2 additional full bathroom remodels with custom cabinets, tile, niches, glass enclosures
- added 16’ glass sliding door to the back yard for open concept
- reconfigured kitchen with island and expanded laundry room and pantry
- misc. – reconfigured floor plan by moving kitchen, dining and family room, adding coffered ceilings, all new windows and doors, roofing, insulation, sheetrock/texture, all electrical, plumbing, painting, front entry cantilever porch with tile entry, flooring throughout, interior and exterior light fixtures, recessed lights, communications system/AV, water heater, HVAC, window treatments, and garage storage/access
